The working world looms just over the hill for 400 UA agriculture students, and the College of Agriculture is trying to make the challenge of job interviews and resum‚s easier for its students.
The Department of Agriculture and the Office of Academic Programs are sponsoring a career discovery day today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exchange of information with potential employers gives students the opportunity to learn about available jobs and internships, said Bobby Browning, a coordinator in the University of Arizona career placement office.
The agriculture job market offers opportunities not only in the familiar field of crop and livestock raising, but also in farm lending, banking, nurseries, chemical industry, forestry and biology, Browning said.
Representatives from about 30 companies and agencies, primarily in Arizona and California, will attend the fair. Participants include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Foreign Credit Services, Ciba Gigey, Arizona Agricultural Statistic Services, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Bank One and First Interstate Bank.
"The college is really enthusiastic about this day since it's our first one," Browning said. The agriculture career discovery day may become an annual event, he said.
Today's events take place in the Student Union Senior Ballroom.
