Police arrested three students Tuesday after they saw them smoking marijuana in a car parked in the lot at Seventh Street and Mountain Avenue.

Gary Liang, 19, of Apache-Santa Cruz Residence Hall, 1420 E. Fifth St., Jose Espesel, 18, and Todd Jensen, 19, both of Cochise Residence Hall, 1018 E. S. Campus Drive, were arrested for unlawful possession and use of marijuana.

On routine patrol, police said they saw two people crouched over in the front seat of a car. When police approached the vehicle they could smell marijuana and after questioning Liang, the driver, he admitted they had been smoking in the car.

Liang allowed police to search his vehicle where they found a brown wooden smoking pipe and a small plastic bag of marijuana.

Liang, Espesel and Jensen were cited and released at the scene.
