After the first day of the heptathlon and decathlon portion of the Willie Williams Classic last Thursday, Arizona's Rebecca Butt (3,206 points) stood among collegiate competitors, trailing Nevada's Ali McNight, who recorded 3,295 points through four events.
On the men's side, after five events, Arizona's top performer was David Norman, who owned a fourth-place point total of 3,611 in the collegiate division. UA freshman Dominic Johnson, a Flowing Wells High School product, was in 12th place with 3,375 points. The college men's division was led by Boise State's Brian Davidson's 3,827 points.
Overall, the heptathlon was paced by Marla Runyon's (USA BA) 3,298 points and the men were led by Shawn Wilbourn's (Beach Track Club) 3,990 points.
For the Wildcats, Butt captured both the high jump (5-9 1/4) and the shot put (37-10). Norman's top finish was in the 100-meter dash, as he ran to a seventh-place time of 11.2 (hand time).
