THURSDAY, MARCH 23

Tucson author Tom Sheridan will be giving a talk about his new book "Arizona: A History" at noon in Student Union Room 285. The book spans Arizona's history from prehistoric times to the recent construction of the Central Arizona Project. T.H. Watkins, editor of Wilderness magazine says that "('Arizona: A History') is a history of majestic scale and compulsive readability." The talk is a Brown Bag lunch event, and students are encouraged to bring their lunches. For more information, call 621-3920.

Nigerian playwright/director Awam Amkpa will be speaking at McClelland Hall, Room 125, about different African cultures in film. With excerpts from West-African, Black British, and African-American films, Amkpa will lead a historical and cultural discussion concerning the politics of identity, place and marginality and explore strategies of subverting conventions of cinematic representations. FRIDAY, MARCH 24

Club Congress, 311 E. Congress, has an evening full of music planned for Friday parties. Black Moon Graffitti, a local hip-hop band that is gaining national recognition, will be performing live in addition to Dog and Pony Show, Fuzz, and Alison's Halo. "Okoge," an unconventional love story that looks at the gay subculture in contemporary Japan arrives at the Screening Room, 127 E. Congress, tonight at 8 p.m. There will be additional screenings Saturday, March 25 at 10 p.m. and Sunday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. The film begins the Screening Room's "Another View from Japan" series which is held in conjunction with the views from Japan photo exhibit at the Dinnerware Gallery. SATURDAY, MARCH 25

The Oro Valley Neighborhood Coalition is planning a walk and rally to show support for Honey Bee Canyon will take place at 10 a.m. at the Mountain View Shopping Plaza, 1171 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd. (at the corner of Rancho Vistoso and Sun City Blvd.) The walk will be about a half mile into the Canyon where speakers will briefly address the group Ä this is not a hike into the canyon. SUNDAY, MARCH 26

A concert of vocal and instrumental music by J.S. Bach and George Philipp Telemann will sound tonight at 8 p.m. in the School of Music's newly redesigned Crowder Hall. The Collegium Musicum ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists, with John Brobeck as Conductor, will be performing. Admission to the event is free. Mel Torme, an entertainer who has won critical acclaim singing, composing, being a movie star, radio performer, drummer, TV talk-show host, musical arranger, vaudeville performer, and author is coming to Tucson. MONDAY, MARCH 27

Edward Reid will be performing a trumpet concert at 8 p.m. in the School of Music's newly redesigned Crowder Hall. Reid, a visiting assistant professor of music at the UA, will perform a trumpet recital featuring the music of Hummel, Brahms, Honegger, and Ewald. Also performing will be UA Faculty Paula Fan (Piano), Tom Ervin (Trombone), and Gregg Hanson (the narrator). For tickets or additional information, call the UA Fine Arts Box Office at 621-1162.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29

The winners of the UA Poetry Center's Annual Poetry Contest will read from their work at 8 p.m. in the Modern Languages Auditorium. This year's contest was judged by poet Greg Pape. The reading is free. For more information, contact the UA Poetry Center at 321-7760.
