Senior Chris Everett, a lock for the UA rugby team, has been selected as a member of the Pacific Coast Collegiate Rugby Conference Southern Division All-Conference squad.

The Southern Division squad is the prerequisite team to become a member of the All-American team.

To become an All-American, Everett will have to earn his way on the team with good play at a tournament this summer.

Selected by the coaches from San Diego and San Diego State, Everett will join the Southern Division squad in June. The squad is one of seven that are formed around the country.

Throughout the summer, the squads will compete in front of the All-American Selection Committee at Ohio State.

"He is strong enough and plays aggressively," UA head coach Dave Sitton said. "He is an extraordinary runner, and his physical strength is definitely a plus."

Everett began his rugby career after a short stint with the football team, where he was a linebacker during his freshman year.

Recommended to stop playing football after he suffered a pinched nerve in his neck, Everett had to find a sport that didn't involve helmets.

Everett has three years experience with the rugby team. He has played both lock and prop during his career.

"He (Everett) has been a great influence on our players and the program," Sitton said.

Sitton coaches the United States All- American team, a squad that will tour to Australia in August of 1996.

"Everett could possibly be one of the 10 members that have not been named yet to that team," Sitton said.

Everett will graduate next week and plans to enroll in graduate school this fall.
