Greek house displays a lack of student pride

Editor:

What has happened to student pride and traditions on the UA campus since 1972?

I am an alumnus of Aggie House and left the university in 1972 to go on active duty in the U.S. Navy. In those days, the campus was clean and neat, especially those buildings belonging to fraternities and sororities. The members took pride in the ownership and reputation of their "houses." They were always presentable to guests and visiting relatives and friends.

I have recently retired from the Navy and returned to the campus. What I have seen is appalling! The most obvious offender is Pi Kappa Alpha at 1340 E. First St. For the last two weeks, their grounds and building have remained majorly "TRASHED."

Beer cans, wine bottles, pizza boxes, toilet paper, shaving cream, plastic cups and other trash has been strewn about with the members coming and going. Don't they know how to clean up after themselves? (Their mothers don't work here.)

It's obvious that this house is severely lacking in leadership and accountability. Pride does not seem to even register on the scale. Are we not on a campus of higher learning where students are taught the skills to enable them to take their place in society, being productive and role models for others to emulate???

Who oversees the Greek houses and holds them accountable for their conduct and appearance?

The student governmental body needs a "slap in the face wake-up call." Pride and professionalism run deep in the armed forces and a big dose is in order for this campus...

The UA is not a daycare center!
