Women's lacrosse team stays unbeaten

While the rain headed east, the Arizona women's lacrosse team headed west and won all three of its weekend games in Southern California.

Arizona's first trip to the West Coast back in February was rained out, but this time the Wildcats rained shots down on their opponents' goals, beating Claremont 11-8 and Whittier 13-3.

Westmont College forfeited Friday's game rather than face first place Arizona (7-0).

"I think as a team we played a lot better," senior midfielder Jessica Deal said. "Our transition game was really strong. We let the ball do the work instead of wearing out our legs."

Deal scored four goals against Claremont and three against Whittier. Attacker Andrea Bozzolo was the top scorer for the weekend, scoring four goals in each game. Attacker Sarah Schier scored once against Claremont and three times against Whittier.

Deal said the team needs only one win at Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo's tournament next weekend to clinch the Western League title and earn a first round bye for the playoffs.

Arizona would also get the chance to host a second round game, Deal said.Arizona's final regular season home match will be against UCLA on April 11.
