Hull's proposal would leave libraries in lurch, says Likins

PHOENIX - UA libraries would take a big hit with the governor's recent budget proposal, since it keeps library funding flat, UA President Peter Likins said yesterday.

Despite a request for about $900,000 more, Gov. Jane Hull's proposal released yesterday holds library acquisitions funding at $6.8 million - the same as this year.

"What that amounts to is canceling publications," Likins said. "Journal publications are growing in cost and I have to hope the governor and her staff just don't understand the effects."

Likins added, "When you have subscriptions over a period of years, you can't just pick it up a year later."
