To the editor,

For the last week, I have stood by and watched as my name, reputation, actions and words have been taken down a path of false assumptions and accusations. You, the students, have the right to know the truth. My name is Viviane Safrin and I am an honest, dedicated and respectable student who is running for the office of Administrative Vice President.

Within the first week of the elections schedule, I sent a letter to Greek houses and a few residence halls requesting banner locations. I had misread the Elections Code, and had believed that these letters were within election policy. Once I learned that they were not, I informed the Elections Commissioner of my mistake. I have taken full responsibility for my oversight. I sent out a letter of retraction to every organization whoreceived my original letter.

There is a huge difference between me, who misinterpreted a rule, addressed my mistake and apologized, and a person who cheats. As I have not cheated the students in any way, I will not continue to silently watch as false assumptions are made about what type of person I am by people who are unaware of who and what I stand for. As university students, we pride ourselves on being the leaders of the next generation. I have represented the ideals that each of you have for a leader by taking responsibility for my actions.
