Head over to the lower level of Old Main today at noon for the Student Career Week Kick-Off. Staff will be on hand for two hours to provide you with tips about résumé writing, give you hints on how to network with employers and answer any questions you may have about Career Services in general. Besides pointing you in the right business direction, these friendly folks will also feed you free pizza and soda. Nice! Call Susan Miller at 621-1408 for further information.

Small, but not insignificant, the common fruit fly has provided scientists with valuable research opportunities for years. But don't take my word for it - come to the Arizona Research Laboratories Division of Neurobiology Seminar at noon and hear for yourself. Marinus DeBruyne, of Yale University's Department of Biology, will be speaking about "Olfactory Receptor Cells on the Maxillary Palps of Drosophila Melangogaster: Using Electrophysiology and Genetics to Study Odor Coding" in Room 601 of the Gould-Simpson Building. John G. Hildebrand will be happy to answer your questions at 621-6626.

Finally! Concrete answers to math problems! Peter Clarkson (Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Kent) promises you "Backlund Transformations and Exact Solutions for the Discrete Painleve Equations" if you come to Room 501 of the Mathematics building at 4 p.m. this afternoon. Clarkson will speak as part of the Program in Applied Mathematics Seminar series. Call Kathleen Leick at 621-2016 for details.

Cultivate your artsy side tonight at the Laboratory Theatre in Drama West of the Fine Arts Complex. I Hate Hamlet will be performed by the Arizona Repertory Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Check out Paul Rudnick's play about the experiences of a young TV actor who has finally landed a major part in a Shakespeare-in-the-Park production. Unfortunately, he hates playing Hamlet. Such a dilemma! See the resolution for $16 if you're part of the general population, $14 if you're UA faculty or a senior citizen, or $10 if you're a student.

If theater isn't your choice, experience a different sort of drama tonight at the Student Union Arizona Ballroom. W.S. Merwin, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, will read selected pieces of his work at 8 p.m. The poetry, "The Folding Cliffs," is a narrative in verse that is set in 19th century Hawaii. The Poetry Center will sponsor this event, as well as the following informal reception. Contact the Poetry Center at 321-7760 for more information.

Come on back to campus on Saturday night for something other than homework. "Deep Impact" offers you an apocalyptic view of celestial objects at 7:30 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. at Gallagher Theatre. $2.50 gets you a look at how our trusty government might handle imminent destruction.

Did somebody say "martini?" Club Congress (311 E. Congress Street) continues to bring you only the finest in musical fare Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. with the one, the only, the Reverend Horton Heat! REO Speedealer joins the gold lameacute;-clad boys for 15 measly dollars. Spyder Rhodes will follow the performance with his weekly Electric Company stint at 11 p.m. Don't miss it, and, by all means, do not forget your ID.

What's to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon? Well, you could lay around and read the paper, or you could take the UA School of Music and Dance up on its suggestion. For $10 or less (depending upon your societal status) you can attend the Faculty Artist Series at Crowder Hall in the Fine Arts Complex. The Lorenzo Trio program will showcase violinist Mark Rush, cellist Nancy Green and pianist Tannis Gibson as they and special guests perform "Trio No. 1, op. 8" (Dmitri Shostakovich), "Trio in A, op. 114" (Johannes Brahms), and "Piano Quartet in C, op. 15" (Gabriel Faure). Dial 621-1162 to reach the Fine Arts Box Office and get your questions answered.
