Saturday marks the last day of Turkish Heritage Week. If you haven't done anything to honor the 75th anniversary of the Turkish state, today is your lucky day. Take a seat in Room 103 of the Architecture building to hear an engaging lecture on the "Sufi Musical Tradition." Latif Bolat (ethnomusocologist, singer/composer, and musical director of the Mevlevi Association of America) will teach you about this Islamic mystical form of music and perhaps provides samples at 10 a.m. Contact Karen Galindo at 621-8079 for more information.

See how they celebrate death on the south side - of the border, that is. The Arizona Historical Society (949 E. Second St.) will debut its "Day of the Dead" exhibit today at 10 a.m. Color photographs by David Burckhalter and an altar featuring Day of the Dead artifacts will serve as the medium through which you may observe Mexican and Mexican-American D”a de los Muertos customs. The exhibit reception will take place between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Cara Cameli can answer your questions at 621-4627.

Terrified of exams? Professors leave you quaking? Well, the horror doesn't end when you leave campus today - in fact, it is just beginning. Yuma Hall is holding its annual Haunted Dungeon tonight and Saturday right behind the dorm. Enter the mouth of madness at 6 p.m. and stay until midnight - or until you faint from fear. The cost is $2 or three cans of food, and all profits will go to charity. Contact Dan at 626-8643 for more ghoulish details.

You may never be too old to dress up for Halloween, but there does come a time when begging your neighbors for candy is out of the question. It's time to play the benevolent adult and dispense sugary treats into the eager hands of costumed children. As the final part of Fall Service Week 1998, there will be a "Halloween Party" today on the UA Mall from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Paint the smiling faces of underprivileged children and help them carve pumpkins in the name of community service and plain old fun. Jessica Watson can relieve your confusion at 626-4906.

Earn monetary rewards for having a bug fetish Saturday at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Whether dead or alive, your favorite hard-skinned insect with six or more legs could win fame and fortune in the Creepy Crawly Critter Contest. The beauty pageant is free with arboretum admission. Enter between 10 a.m. and noon, because the judging begins at 1 p.m. By 3 p.m. You and Tucson's "Most Beautiful" or "Most Repulsive" friend could be the proud recipients of an arboretum gift shop gift certificate. Give Michele Schulze a ring at 689-2723 for details.

After a festive weekend, do your part to raise money to fight cancer Sunday at the Cedric Dempsey Cancer Center Run. An open 10K race (in-line skaters and wheelchairs included) and a 2-mile fun run around the Mall are planned to take place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required, though you may register at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event. Pick up your forms and donate your $15 fee at the Arizona Cancer Center or Saturday at the Tucson Mall. Call Melissa Schiffman at 626-5279 further information.
