University police arrested a Tucson man on suspicion of trespassing early Thursday morning after he was spotted asleep in the library.
According to police reports, an officer in the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd., was walking at 3:03 a.m. on the northeast side of the third floor when he saw Maher M. Elkufash, 35, of the 3700 block of North Fairview Avenue sleeping in a chair.
The officer had expelled Elkufash from the library on two other occasions, reports stated.
Elkufash was removed from the library after officers checked his identification. Officers found he had four pre-vious verbal warnings for trespassing on campus and was arrested on suspicion of trespassing once, reports stated.
The officer cited and released him.
An officer arrested a male student on suspicion of disobeying law enforcement and ignoring a red light Thursday afternoon.
An officer patrolling on his bicycle saw Evan M. Spealman, 22, of the 1500 block of East Ninth Street, ride his bike through a red light at the corner of East Sixth Street and North Highland Avenue at 12:15 p.m., police reports stated.
When the officer ordered Spealman to stop, the student looked at him and then rode away, reports stated.
The officer pursued Spealman and told him to stop again. Spealman looked back at the officer but then continued to ride away, according to reports.
The officer saw Spealman swerve in and out of traffic and eventually stopped him north of the Chemistry building, 1306 E. University Blvd., reports stated.
Spealman told the officer he had to get to class. He added that he gets a kick out of speeding through red lights on his bike, reports stated.
Eventually Spealman admitted what he had done was wrong, reports stated. According to reports, the officer cited and released him.
A student called police Tuesday afternoon after she struck a cement pole in the Park Garage, 1140 N. Park Ave.
According to police reports, the student attempted to exit the garage at 1:55 p.m. The arm wouldn't go up when she slid her gate card through the machine several times.
The woman said she then tried to back up, reports stated. But when the car behind her wouldn't move, she tried to back around the car behind her.
According to reports, the woman hit a pole that protects the arm machine and caused dents and scratches to her front left fender. There was no damage to the pole.
Police warned a Tucson man early Thursday morning after he was seen doing tricks on his skateboard on campus.
An officer was on patrol at 12:51 a.m. near the west side of the Science-Engineering Library, 744 N. Highland Ave., when he saw a man jump his skateboard from the library steps to a bike path between next to the Chemistry and Biological Sciences building, 1340 E. University Blvd., police reports stated.
The officer asked the man for identification and checked for prior warnings, arrests or warrants. The man told police he wasn't a UA student, reports stated.
Police warned the man for trespassing and released him.
Officers helped remove a female student's truck from a metal pole Thursday morning.
According to police reports, the student told police she was making a right turn from an alleyway south of East Sixth Street, west of North Freemont Avenue, into a gated parking lot at 8:30 a.m.
The woman told officers that she struck the metal pole with the right side of her 1996 red Dodge Ram as she made the turn, reports stated.
The cab of her truck was dented and scratched, but most of the damage was done to the bed of the truck - which was dented, scratched and pulled back, reports stated.
Police removed the truck from the pole and released the student.
A Tucson man called police Wednesday afternoon after he found his car damaged in a UA parking lot.
The man told the officer he parked his car in a visitor's lot located at North Mountain Avenue and East Second Street at 3:40 p.m., police reports stated.
The man said when he returned to his 1993 white Ford van at 4:10 p.m. he found a dent on the left rear quarter panel.
According to reports, the man told police whoever hit his van didn't leave any information for him and that he found turquoise paint on it.
