You don't need to go to New York or Los Angeles to view the work of superb artists. Just so happens, we have one right here in Tucson. Robert Colescott is an Emeritus Regents Professor in the UA Art Department, and his "Recent Paintings" will be on display at the UA Museum of Art today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This exhibit was originally shown at the 1997 Venice Biennale, where Colescott was the United States representative. Fancy, no? Oh, by the way - it's free. Call the UAMA at 621-7567 for further information.

Rumor has it, Eat to the Beat wants to set up a lunch date with you. Interested? Then come to the Cellar this afternoon at 11:45 a.m. You bring the belly food, they'll bring the Ear Food. Delicious, appealing and gourmet in every aspect, the band will nourish your aural system till 12:45 p.m. Call Jake McLaughlin at 621-1111 for the specifics.

Global warming, overflowing garbage dumps. Deforestation. Sound ominous? Then make a difference! ACES and the Freshman Year Center have teamed up today to offer a seminar to freshman students interested in working with environmental issues. Head over to the Bear Down Gym at 12 p.m. to grab some free pizza and talk to professionals during the "Save the Planet: Majors to prepare you for careers in the environment" Mentor Connection. Call ACES at 621-7763 for more information.

Unlike many classes here at the UA, Part I of the Program in Applied Mathematics PDE Seminar is not a pre-requisite to Part II. Nick Ercolani (UA Department of Mathematics) will explain "Density of Heat Curves in Moduli Space: Part II" at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon in Room 402 of the Mathematics building. Kathleen Leick can tell you more at 621-2016.

These kids don't want to work, they just want to bang on the drums all day. They are the School of Music and Dance Percussion Ensemble, and they will be performing a varied selection of modern percussion pieces tonight at 7:30 p.m. on the Crowder Hall stage. Call 621-1162 for further information.

The Arizona Repertory Theatre tries their collective hand at pre-World War II pseudo-decadence tonight at the Marroney Theatre. They will perform "Cabaret" - a story of cheap thrills, cheap drinks and cheap shots - at 7:30 p.m. Contact the Fine Arts Box Office at 621-1162 for ticket information.

Remember when Corey Feldman was just a little brat? Reminisce with your 1980s-loving friends tonight at Gallagher Theatre, as they put "Goonies" back on the big screen. (Where it rightfully belongs, of course.) Trade in $2.50 for a chance to see the Truffle Shuffle gracefully performed at 7:30 and 9:40 p.m. Give the theater a call at 621-4678 for more information.
