University police arrested a Tucson woman on suspicion of drug possession early Tuesday morning after she was pulled over for a traffic violation.

According to police reports, two officers on patrol saw Yolanda Baez, 19, of the 2800 block of South Mission Road, run a stop sign at East Second Street and North Mountain Avenue.

Baez, who was pulled over at 12:21 a.m., told police she was "sorry, but she was going too fast to stop and that she would never do it again," reports stated.

Baez was unable to provide a driver license, registration or insurance for police. Officers discovered her license was suspended and she had a warrant for her arrest, reports stated.

Police noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from her car. They searched her car and found one baggie of suspected marijuana inside her purse, another baggie of suspected marijuana under the passenger seat and a piece of paper folded up with a white powdery substance inside, reports stated.

Baez admitted she smokes marijuana and that the baggie in her purse was hers, but she denied any knowledge or connection to the one under the passenger seat, reports stated.

Officers took her to Pima County Jail cited her on suspicion of driving on a suspended license, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of dangerous drugs and the warrant was served.


A Tucson man called police early Tuesday morning to report he was harassed while he was working, police reports stated.

The man told police he was standing in a parking lot while working at the Domino's Pizza, 1033 N. Park Ave., Monday at 9 p.m. when a blue Ford Ranger "whizzed" by him with several men inside, reports stated.

The man told police a man in the truck yelled, "Get out of the fuckin' road," to him and he yelled back, "Shut up," reports stated.

The man told police the Ranger returned and the men in the truck began to yell obscenities at him. According to reports, they also said they were from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

The man told police he did not want to press charges, reports stated.


Police arrested a Tucson woman on suspicion of driving with a suspended license after police clocked her driving 47 mph in a 30 mph zone, police reports stated.

Officers pulled over Monica Vega, 31, of the 2600 block of East Sixth Street, at 8:24 a.m. on East Fifth Street and North Norris Avenue.

Vega told police she had no driver license, registration or insurance, reports stated.

Officers discovered Vega's license was suspended and she had two warrants for writing bad checks to a Walgreens, reports stated.

Vega told police she needed to get her daughter to school. One of the officers took her daughter to school, returned and then transported Vega to Pima County Jail where she was booked.


A student called police early Monday morning after he saw what he believed to be a suspicious person in the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd., police reports stated.

The student told police he was on the third floor of the library at 5 a.m. when he noticed a man staring at him, reports stated.

The student told police he fell asleep and awoke to the man touching him, reports stated.

Police warned the man about trespassing and escorted him out of the library.


Police arrested a Tucson man early Monday morning on suspicion of trespassing after an officer saw him sleeping in a UA building.

According to police reports, police watched Michael McKelvey, 50, of a general delivery address, sleep in the Medical Library, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., for five minutes.

The officer awoke McKelvey at 3:25 a.m. and spoke with him. The officer noted that he had arrested McKelvey at an earlier date for trespassing, reports stated.

McKelvey told police he had no where else to sleep. The officer cited him for trespassing and took him to Pima County Jail where he was released by Pre-Trial Services.
