Viewpoints: Is porn an art?
|
As the final installment in its three-part series on "What is art?", the Wildcat asked students, "Do you consider pornography to be an art form?" Magazines, videos and Web sites were included in this category.
Will Harris History and Spanish junior
"It depends on what form it is used - pornography is tastefully used in Europe. The body is a beautiful thing, and American society takes a very religious and conservative stance on the body, and that causes even more problems for our society."
|
Debie Bisdorf Accounting senior
"No, it is just not appealing to me. I would rather go to a museum to see fine art."
|
Daniel Haq Computer science sophomore
"Yes. Everything that interests the public is art."
|
Steven Hubbs Geosciences freshman
"I guess if it is done for some sort of expression. It depends on the motive behind it."
|
Patricia Healey Political science and Russian studies senior
"My definition is that pornography is something meant to titillate, and its intention is more than to convey beauty or an idea - my own aesthetic says no."
