Investigation continues on campus-area shooting

By The Arizona Daily Wildcat

Police are still investigating the weekend shooting of a Tucson man outside of a campus-area night club.

Adrian L. Collins, 25, was found by police outside The Rock, 136 N. Park Ave., with multiple gunshot wounds at about 1 a.m. on Saturday. Collins was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The club is located about four blocks south of the UA.

Collins was not a University of Arizona student.

Detectives with the Tucson Police Department Gang Unit are investigating the incident, because a preliminary investigation has shown that Collins was associated with gangs, police said.

In 1997, 20-year-old Mark Hunter Jr. was fatally shot after leaving the same club. Hunter's killer shot him in a drive-by while he was stopped at a stop sign at North Tyndall Avenue and East Broadway Boulevard. Police think the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the bar.

Anyone with information on the Collins shooting should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
