Pep rally sends Wildcats to Final Four
Spirited fans fill Sancet Field for brief celebration
The University of Arizona men's basketball team's grandeur may have just earned the status of nobility.
As about 1,500 fans gathered yesterday at Frank Sancet Field to send the Wildcats off on their trip to the NCAA Tournament Final Four in Minneapolis this weekend, the cheering and singing proved that Tucson is indeed in a basketball frenzy.
"I am glad that we had an opportunity to wish the team luck because there are so many of us in Tucson that would like to be at the game rooting for them," said Tucsonan Pat McElroy. "It's a shame that the games can't be played here at home, but I was glad that we actually had the chance to see them off."

Student leaders, peers share views on tuition hike
Students who came to last night's tuition forum and members of the Arizona Students Association feel the same as far as priorities for the money's use, an ASA director said.
"Oddly enough, everyone, including (UA) President (Peter) Likins, is on the same page," said Ray Quintero, ASA co-director.
About 20 students attended the forum to voice their opinions to ASA about where their tuition dollars go.

Defending national champion Spartans stand between Arizona and the title game
They all came to Arizona with one intention in mind. The legendary and now Hall of Fame-nominated head coach already had one national championship and four Final Fours (one with Iowa) under his belt.
So they joined Lute Olson's UA basketball program in hopes of becoming the best.
That allure of vying for the coveted NCAA Championship ring every season seduced the nation's most esteemed high school players into coming to Tucson.

Struggling events need public relations support
Student involvement on this campus tends to be minimal.
However, the cause of this apathy may not be due entirely to laziness on the part of UA students.
After having fallen by the wayside for the past seven years, the UA Residence Hall Association (RHA) has attempted to resurrect an annual lip-sync contest known as Mock Rock.
Although UAB and ASUA worked together to donate their time and prizes to the event, these groups did not seem to plan an effective promotional campaign for Mock Rock.
Despite RHA's enthusiastic attempt at reinstating the event, a lack of publicity is the reason why Mock Rock was unsuccessful - only one person signed up for the event.

UA art students submit work to be judged by professionals for 25th annual VisCom show
The temperature may be rising all over campus with the advent of Spring, but for the art department this year, Spring means "cold."
That is because "cold" is the theme for the 25th annual Visual Communications (VisCom) art show, a juried exhibition of students' graphic design, illustration and computer-related, two-dimensional artwork.
Every Spring UA VisCom students submit work to be judged by working design and illustration professionals who then select, from those entries, which pieces will hang in the exhibition.
