UA graduation rates on the rise

By Katie Clark

Arizona Daily Wildcat

More University of Arizona students who entered the university in 1997 will graduate in four years compared to those who entered in 1996.

Rick Kroc, director of the Office of Assessment and Enrollment Research, said an estimated 30 percent of the 4,431 full-time freshmen who entered the university in 1997 will graduate, compared to 29 percent of the 4,006 freshmen that entered in 1996.

"It's a fairly dramatic increase," he said.

Kroc attributes the increase to a variety of reasons, including a better general education program and a good economy.

"If the economy goes bad, students might not get out as quick," he said, but added he does not see the graduation rates dropping next year.
