CD Review: Stretch Arm Strong

By Adam Pugh

A Revolution Transmission

(Solid State)

Grade:

Christian punk and hardcore bands for years have been pegged into being cheesy Green Day mainstream rip-offs. But when a group comes along that can hold their own with any other band - Christian or otherwise - it is amazing. That group is Stretch Arm Strong, a group that can out-scream and outplay anyone on stage, and has put together its second musically-sold album in as many tries.

No other Christian hardcore band comes together to create such a unique sound using great singing and screaming. On A Revolution Transmission, the group takes their hardcore power sound to a faster and more-aggressive level, not only speeding up the tempo but also the way in which they want to reach the audience with its message of truth. Stretch breaks new ground for itself by bringing to its music stories of hard times on the road and the pain that some days bring.

"I know that we'll never fully agree/ but it's worth my time and it's worth the risk/ because this is my family," from The Truth About Iowa.

This group shows the world with its music that belief is one thing and music is another. These guys may all be Christians, but they are also human beings who make some really down-to -earth music that will make you stop and think for a few minutes. They aren't judging anyone but themselves, so give this one a listen and recognize that not all good music is made by the Backstreet Boys.
