New a new hairdo? Well, why not donate charity at the same time? Clairol will be on the Mall today from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to cut and coif your hair, and all the proceeds will be donated to local charities. The University Activities Board will be sponsoring this event, so come out and show your goodwill. If you'd like more information on this hair-raising event, or any other UAB activities, call them at 621-0763.

Is your home not quite complete? Maybe it's lacking a mezuzah. Hillel will be holding a mezuzah-making workshop on the Mall today, complete with all the materials necessary to create a first-rate mezuzah. Stop by the Mall from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. for a chance to hook yourself up with a free, handmade mezuzah. And if you can't be there, give Hillel a call at 624-6561 for all the details on how to make one at home. Or even to find out what a mezuzah is if you don't know.

Everybody's always looking for a reason to party, now you have one. It's Mexican Independence Day and Hispanic Heritage Month. The Mall stage will play host to a Mariachi band and Folklorico dancers. So swing by to get in touch with your roots, or the roots of our neighbors down south. The festivities start at noon. Call Beth Bujarski at 621-8475 for more information.

You've seen his work at the UA's art museum, so why not meet the man himself? Sculptor and filmmaker Lewis Alquist will be speaking at the museum tomorrow. And where else can you explore radioactive dishware? This rare opportunity to check out off-the-wall art and the man behind it should not be missed, so be at the UA Art Museum by 12:15. You can drop Alisa Shorr a line at 621-7567 for more details.

The Poetry Center's Reading Series is starting up again. C.D. Wright has the honor of taking the stage to introduce a new season. Wright has published nine collections of poetry, her most recent work being a book length poem entitled "Deepstep Come Shining." Wright will be speaking in the Modern Languages Auditorium at 8 this evening. Call Frances Shoberg at 321-7760 if you have any questions.

You know you're like every other kid on campus, lots of dreams for the future and no ambition to make any of them come true. This week's leadership workshop has got the answer for you though. "Motivating Yourself and Others to Succeed" is geared toward helping you find the inspiration you need to turn off Jerry Springer and do something with yourself. Be in the Tucson Room of the Student Union by 3 this afternoon. This workshop is also part of a six-part certification program. Questions about this workshop or the certification program should be directed to Matt Helm at 626-4905.
