Police arrest 5 in serial armed robberies

By The Associated Press

PHOENIX - Police arrested five men they believe were responsible for robbing 10 convenience stores.

The men were caught during the weekend in part because of tips that came in after police released the men's photos last week, police spokesman Bob Ragsdale said yesterday.

He said the group had been dubbed "cuchillo bandits" because they held up store clerks at knife point. Cuchillo means knife in Spanish.

The men arrested were identified as Richard Rueda, Elio Salaf, Jerry Felix, Fernando Garcia and Fernando Lebron. All five were charged with armed robbery.

Ragsdale said police are still investigating and may arrest more people.
