ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A man was charged with first-degree murder in the death of an American Indian woman, and police say he may be linked to other recent slayings of women in the city.
Joshua A. Wade, 20, of Anchorage, was taken into custody without incident Saturday evening at an apartment building in the city, police said. An arraignment was set for yesterday.
Wade was charged in the death of Della M. Brown, whose body was found in a shed in the city's Spenard neighborhood on Sept. 2.
Brown's slaying brought to six the number of women killed in the past 15 months in Anchorage whose deaths had been unsolved. Brown and four other victims were Indians. A sixth victim, killed last summer, was black.
Police said they have information linking Wade to some of the other recent murders, but did not elaborate.
Anchorage police Detective Sgt. Ken Spadafora said at the time of Brown's death that all the victims, ranging in age from 25 to 59, were homeless or substance abusers or both.
At least two victims were stabbed to death; another was drowned.
