Who's playing on the Mall today? Good Question. No really, that's the name of the band. Come join this funky jam band from noon till 1 p.m. for some rockin' tunes during your lunch break. If you've got some questions, you should direct them to Stephanie Albright at 621-1111.

Ever tried living on the edge? Well maybe you should with today's lecture on "Life on the Edge: A History of Medicine in Arizona." Marty Ronstadt will take you through several demonstrations on mortars and pestles as he discusses the evolution of the role of pharmacists and drug stores. He'll also show you how modern pharmacists return to the science of compounding when one size fits all just doesn't work. The lecture will be held at both 1 and 3:30 p.m. in the Presidio Gallery of the Arizona Historical Society. Call 628-5774 for all the details.

So you don't know where you're going in life, what you're going to do, how you're going to make ends meet. Big deal, right? Wrong. You need to start investing in your future now so you can reap the benefits once you're retired. The UA is offering a six-part investment series aimed at helping you decide what stocks, real estate, mutual funds and trusts to invest in. The program costs $15, but your investment could transform into millions a few years down the line. The workshop starts at 6 p.m. in the Pima County Cooperative Extension, 4210 N. Campbell Ave. Call 626-5161 to reserve your spot.

It's not quite Ricky Martin, but it's still a little taste of Latin America. Jazz pianist Ruben Gutierrez will perform with the Latin Jazz Exchange today. Gutierrez's rich blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, traditional American bebop and improvisation shatters the boundaries of standard Latin jazz. The show starts at 6 p.m. in Crowder Hall. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased through the fine arts box office by calling 621-1162.

So you think you've got the skill to make the best jack-o-lantern? Put your money where your mouth is and come on out to the pumpkin carving contest at the School of Landscape Architecture. Here's your chance to express your artistic side, pretend your pumpkin is your worst professor as you take a carving knife to it or just have fun kicking back with a childhood pastime. The only drawback is this event is BYOP (bring your own pumpkin). The festivities start at 6 p.m. and will run 'til around 9. Call Krystal MacDough at 626-7466 for all the details.

So what's the big deal with all this sweatshop labor talk? It translates into cheaper clothes for you, right? If this is your mentality, you shouldn't miss tonight's presentation on sweatshop labor. Joining UA President Peter Likins will be Richard Applebaum of the Worker Rights Consortium who will examine the apparel industry and its complexities. The forum starts at 7 p.m. in Room 139 of the law college.
