UA athletic director Jim Livengood announced last night that either a press release or a press conference tomorrow will announce his plans to replace former head football coach Dick Tomey, who resigned Friday night.
Livengood said that whomever is hired as the program's next head coach will have the opportunity to rehire Tomey's former assistant coaches.
"The big thing that I am going to focus on today and tomorrow is making sure that (the coaching staff) knows exactly what is going on," he said. "At this point, I am trying to make sure that we get everyone well taken care of."
As of last night, Livengood had no immediate timetable for replacing Tomey, who abruptly resigned in the UA locker room following Friday's 30-17 loss to Arizona State at Arizona Stadium.
Tomey leaves UA as the winningest coach in school history, despite posting an 11-12 record during the past two seasons.
"I would like to do it as quickly as possible, but I don't want to leave any stone unturned," Livengood said. "How quick (a new coach is hired) depends on the quality of the candidates."
Livengood said he would elaborate more about the identities of the candidates and the qualifications for the job tomorrow.
