U of A Bookstore / ASUA Building
Expected Completion Date: Dec. 22, 2000
Original Completion Date: Nov. 22, 2000
To Be Done During Break: Fire alarm tests still need to be completed. A weekend in mid-December will be set aside for this to be done. Crews are nearly finished with the exterior of the building. Painting of plaster and cleaning of brick on the outside will continue until the completion date. On the inside, carpet will continue to be installed. Painting and concrete staining will also be done.
Possible Delays: Though unlikely, Simplex, the company testing the fire alarms, might not be completed with testing.
"We all have a pretty good understanding that we need to be done by Dec. 22."
- Doug Huie, Swinerton and Walberg Builders student union senior project manager
Food Services Building (former Gallagher Theater site)
Expected Completion Date: March, 2001
To Be Done During Break: Crews will continue with installation of the exterior steel framing.
Possible Delays: The delays are not expected to come from the completion of the building, but rather from the completion of the underground loading dock that will service the building. If the loading dock is not finished in March, food deliveries to the new building could be impacted. Deliveries could be made to the old kitchen and then moved to the new one, but there is a five-foot-grade difference between the two rooms.
"We need to sit down and decide, 'when does it make sense for the union to move?'"
- Doug Huie, Swinerton and Walberg Builders student union senior project manager
New Union Underground Loading Dock
Expected Completion Date: April 2001
Original Completion Date: March 2001
To Be Done During Break: A concrete floor for the loading dock is expected to be poured.
Possible Delays: Rain and late delivery of steel have already delayed the project by a month. Additional delays may occur because steel deliveries have not been completed yet.
Integrated Learning Center
Expected Completion Date: Summer 2001
Original Completion Date: Spring 2001
To Be Done During Break: Much of the work on the ILC will occur outside of the existing fence line. Crews plan to section-off a large portion of the UA Mall, just west of the cactus garden, for installation of new sidewalks and repaving of the bike path. This area is being leveled because it is an area of water ponds that form during rainstorms.
Possible Delays: No delays are anticipated. Crews ran into trouble earlier in the project because of difficulties with concrete work.
