The temperature is rising and has led many of us to ask whether winter in Arizona is a "Truth or Hoax." The Center for Creative Photography poses the same question in relation to the possible faking of archaeology with the opening of David Soren's talk at 5:30 p.m. Soren asks his audience to question the validity of natural history as represented in archaeology, art, dance and film. The discussion will take place at CCP located near Park Ave. and Speedway Blvd. Any further questions can be answered by CCP staff at 621-7968.

Quantum physics is no longer a subject studied by scientists hibernating behind laboratory doors. Optical sciences Professor Pierre Meystre brings science to the table with his 3:30 p.m. lecture on "Quantum Degenerate Lithium: A Tale of Non-identical Twins." The award winning scientist will describe his experiments with cold, trapped gases of various lithium isotopes. The lecture will take place in the Optical Sciences Center, room 410. For more information, please contact Meystre at 621-4651.

The African American Student Affairs continues their focus on the civil rights movement with today's showing of "One False Move." The 5 p.m. feature film discusses the complications associated with drug dealing and the incessant battle between criminals and policemen. The film stars Billy Bob Thornton and will be shown in the Modern Languages building, room 305. If you have any questions regarding the film topic, please contact the African American Student Affairs at 621-3419.

Time transcends art at today's Lionel Rombach Gallery Exhibition entitled, "Time, Place and Relationships." The exhibit is filled with paintings and mixed media works by Kristen Heist and Smita Kohl Mathews. The two artists examine personal and intimate issues plaguing society with their creative use of fabric and large swatches of color fields. The exhibit can be seen through Feb. 5 and will be on display during the gallery's normal business hours. For information about viewing times and costs, please contact the gallery at 626-4215.

The UA Library showcases its criminal fiction section this month with its "Heroes Happen: The Sheriff in Contemporary Crime Fiction" book exhibit. The display features UA alumni J.A. Jance and her mystery series focused around a fictional sheriff named Joanna Brady. She has written more than 25 full-length novels which have been translated into 18 languages. To read up more on Brady or other scary novelists, please contact Bonnie Travers at 621-4295.

Prepare for today's baseball game by taking a quick visit to the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame located at the McKale Center. The Hall of Fame, established in 1976, portrays the athletic accomplishments of current and former UA athletes. Sports such as golf, waterpolo and gymnastics are represented throughout the hallways. To catch a peek during open hours, call the McKale Center at 621-2287.
