Interested in declaring a law major or currently working towards a UA degree in law? Pre-law fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, is currently recruiting members to join their professional organization. Although the fraternity focuses on educating students about the career paths possible with a law degree, students of all majors are invited to join. There is no formal rush involved in the recruitment process, but interested students should attend an informational meeting at 7 p.m. in the UA law school building room 140. If you have any questions about the direction of the organization, please call Traci Jacobsen at 903-0789 or 271-8653.
The University Activities Board presents an afternoon of fun with today's installment of Eat to the Beat. The program, initially created to add a little spice to the average UA feeding time, plays host to a variety of different bands and local artists. The festivities begin at noon and are open to the general public at no cost. For further questions regarding specific acts and their location on the UA Mall, please contact Stephanie Albright at 621-1111.
Having trouble falling asleep at night? Check out today's Center for Creative Photography gallery talk titled, "Sleep Faster, We Need the Pillows." Photographer Joel-Peter Wilkin will discuss his past career paths and future plans while describing his pieces on display at the Etherton Gallery. After the 5:30 p.m. talk, he will sign copies of his recent books, on sale in the CCP museum store. This event is part of the CCP's 25th anniversary celebration and will be held in the main gallery. If you have any questions regarding future CCP exhibits, please call the center at 621-7968.
Many UA general education classes require a fair amount of writing skills to complete routine homework assignments and tests. If you are having difficulty putting your thoughts down on paper for your professors, check out today's 4 p.m. Writing Skills Improvement Program which focuses on "The Basics of Academic Writing." Kendra Gaines, a writing skills employee, will lead the free lecture in the Modern Languages building room 310. If you have any questions regarding the content of the workshop, please contact Donna Rabuck at 621-5849.
Students interested in gaining teaching experience as well as improving relationship skills in the classroom should attend today's
"Teach for America" informational meeting at noon. This two-year program allows college graduates, regardless of degree, to teach in schools receiving little economic funding. All participants receive a first year teacher's salary and an additional stipend offered to help relieve the burden of paying off student loans. Although the meeting will take place in the Slonaker House, specific room information can be obtained by calling Melissa Barnett at 1-888-464-4134, or the Honors College at 621-6901.
