Angela Orlando

Angela Orlando

Best new artist:

David Gray

I'll have to vote for David Gray, though I'm sure he won't win over his oh-so-talented competition. Gray's style is simultaneously innovative and easily digestible.

Best rock album:

Stories from the City, Stories form the Sea - PJ Harvey

Technically speaking, PJ Harvey has it all over burnt-out granddaddies Aerosmith and sold-out shoe-ins U2 with this long-overdue masterpiece.

Alternative music album:

Strange Little Girls - Tori Amos

Though Radiohead will obviously take the award, it's impossible for me not to thank Tori for her delicious deviations from the norm.

Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal:

"Elevation" - U2

After this many years of practice, U2 seems to have mastered the art of harmonization, which is good, since they seem to have forgotten everything else.

Record of the Year:

"Walk On"- U2

Once again, I'm forced to vote for the least of available evils. It's deeply saddening that U2 has lost so much soul, but the band's still better than Train.

Adam Pugh

Adam Pugh

Best new artist:

Linkin Park

Why Linkin Park? Because everyone else in the category sets my gag reflex to "vibrate."

Best rock album:

Gold - Ryan Adams

Ryan Adams should win because he can write songs without using turntables or deploying a gimmick to sell records.

Best alternative music album:

Amnesiac - Radiohead

What? Electronic noise with horns? People who think this band has to stick with one genre need help.

Rock performance by a duo or group with vocal:

"The Space Between" - The Dave Matthews Band

This band's new album sucks the big one, but it will always win with its outstanding shows in my book.

Record of the Year:

"Ms. Jackson" - OutKast

Bono doesn't need any more attention, Alicia Keys needs to die, India.Arie is bland and Train needs to derail.

Sanders Fabares

Sanders Fabares

Best new artist:

Nelly Furtado

She sounds like a young Stevie Nicks and looks like a million bucks, not a hoochie or soft-drink icon. She has talent.

Best rock album:

All That You Can't Leave Behind-U2

Songs about fighting depression and idleness was what we all needed when "stuck" in the moment of September.

Best alternative music album:

Amnesiac - Radiohead

Listening to "Like Spinning Plates" turns me into an amnesiac, making me forget where and who I am. Awesome.

Best rock performance by a duo or group with vocals:

"Elevation" - U2

The intimate Elevation tour reestablished U2's identity as great performers who love to engage the audience.

Record of the year:

"Walk On" - U2

Still not the old U2, but this was a solid and meaningful album that resurrected my faith in Bono.

Jessica Suarez

Best New Artist:

Alicia Keys

I don't trust anyone who adds extra punctuation to their name. Or Nelly Furtado.

Rock Album:

Gold - Ryan Adams

He could be the aging hipster's Elliot Smith. Or the poor speller's Bryan Adams.

Alternative Music Album:

Amnesiac - Radiohead

They could make an album of noise and I'd still like it. They did. And I do. So there.

Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal:

"Yellow" - Coldplay

I would have requested this song at my high school prom, if I went to high school.

Record of the Year:

"Ms. Jackson" - OutKast

Why isn't "Get Ur Freak On" nominated? Oh well, at least OutKast has style.
