CatCalls

By Mindy Jones
ARIZONA DAILY WILDCAT

Tuesday September 4, 2001

You don't have to go to church to enjoy the rich sounds of classic and modern gospel music. Today between noon and 1 p.m. members from the Gatekeeper organization will broadcast a variety of gospel music genres to lighten up your bag lunch on the UA Mall. For more information on what to expect when the amplifier turns on full blast, contact Rebekah at 930-0730.

Got a spare $20 in your pocket? What better way to spend it than on a hearty steak meal from McMahon's Steakhouse while getting the inside scoop on your UA Wildcats. Every Tuesday, football coach John Mackovic will provide an in-depth preview of the Wildcat's upcoming opponents during lunch. From noon to 1 p.m., students and fans are invited to come and partake in this classic football ritual. For more information about "Tuesdays in the Huddle with John Mackovic," call Jill Hall at 621-2331.

Are you concerned about the welfare of Arizona's underprivileged and unhealthy children? For an informative look at "The State of Arizona's Children," check out today's UA Public Health Grand Rounds seminar at the Arizona Cancer Center Kiewit Auditorium. Conducted by Penelope Jacks, director of Children's Action Alliance and Tucson child advocate, the seminar will run from noon to 1 p.m. and continuing education credits are available. For more information, call Kiki Riley at 626-2112.

You have seen the rallies and heard the cries for improved university employment opportunities, now get the cold hard facts at today's Staff Advisory Board Meeting, "Discussions on Salary Adjustments & Unionization." The meeting, held in the "Swede" Johnson building Room 205, will begin promptly at 3 p.m. Union advocates will discuss how the university can benefit from unionization from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you cannot attend this meeting but would like more information on the unionization efforts, call Lisa Wakefield at 621-9017.

With a short school week on tap and plenty of assignments flowing in the background, you may want to check out today's Graduate Writing Workshop for a little academic help. Dr. Kendra Gaines from the Writing Skills Improvement Program will cover today's topic, "The Basics of Academic Writing." The class begins at 4 p.m. in the Psychology building, Room 405, and is free and open to all UA students. For more information, call Donna Rabuck at 621-5849.
