Decreased raise plan passes Legislature

The Arizona Legislature passed a state budget today that includes $1,450 raises for UA employees, sending the budget to Gov. Jane Dee Hull for her likely approval.

The raises are smaller than originally proposed and will be delivered later in the year, which is in line with what Hull previously requested. Legislators expect the governor to approve the budget before the end of the week. [Read article]

Nursing senior Heather Evans serves up a bun full of mini veggie burgers for the Great American Meat-Out, which took place yesterday on the Mall. Evans coordinated the event, where members of Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals gave out free vegan food to raise awareness about the benefits of an animal-friendly diet.

  • The most destructive tornado on record occurred in Annapolis, Missouri. In 3 hours, it tore through the town on March 18, 1925, leaving a 980-foot-wide trail of demolished buildings, uprooted trees and overturned cars. The tornado left 823 people dead and almost 3,000 injured.
  • Pollen grains are so tiny and uniform that they have been used to calibrate instruments that measure in thousandths of an inch. Forget-me-not pollen grains are so small that 10,000 of them can fit on the head of a pin.
