Many people in their teens and early 20s suffer from mental anxiety from weight issues. Bulimia, anorexia and other eating disorders run rampant and often undiagnosed. The 2002 Building Academic Community: The Speaker Series, plans to address the topic today from 12:15 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. in the Integrated Learning Center, Room 150. Mimi Nichter of the Anthropology department will present "I'm So Fat: Listening to Teenaged Girls Talk About Their Bodies." For more information, contact Jael Walker at 621-7060 or e-mail to osegoj@email.arizona.edu.
Expand your horizons and learn about beautiful Southern Europe through the silver screen. The French and Italian Film Series presents "Un Heros si discret," a 1996 film by J. Audiard. Wednesdays on the UA campus prove to be the opportune time to catch good films with great messages. You can even fit "Bamboozled," a 2000 Spike Lee film, into your schedule at 7 p.m., right after the French and Italian Film Series movie. Starring Damon Wayans, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Michael Rapaport, the movie satirizes the television industry. The African American Arts, Media and Culture Video Series presents the free flick at the Arizona International College student lounge, at the southeast corner of East Helen Street and North Cherry Street. For more information, contact Beretta E. Smith-Shomade at 621-5899.
UAB Films is not to be outdone this Wednesday, as it presents the next movie in film festival series. "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" shows at 7:30 p.m. in the Integrated Learning Center, Room 140. The movie is free. For more information, contact Diana Ziegler at 621-0768 or e-mail her at dziegler@email.arizona.edu.
Though it bucks the Wednesday trend, movies aren't the only media that provide informative entertainment on the UA campus. The UA Prose Writers Series presents David Foster Wallace and Pete Rock as they discuss their careers and writing experiences tonight in the Modern Languages auditorium at 8. Wallace is the author of "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men," "Infinite Jest" and "The Broom of the System," among other works. Rock wrote "The Ambidextrist," "This is the Place" and "Carnival Wolves."
