Monkey chant singing. If that didn't get your attention, nothing else I say here will. Today from 11 a.m. to noon, learn how Balinese people celebrate their culture and heritage through Kecak, or monkey chant singing, and Gender Wayang, a Balinese gamelan and shadow puppet accompaniment instrument. Nyoman Sumandhi, a renowned Balinese musician, dancer and dalang master of the traditional Balinese Shadow Puppet Theater, will lecture about the ways of music and celebration in Bali in the Music building, Room 170. For more information, contact Gary Cook at 626-9227, e-mail him at cook@u.arizona.edu or visit one of the Web sites at http://www.cdstreet.com/artists/inyomansumandhi or http://www.centerforworldmusic.org/sumandhi.html.
