Loving the Pac-10: Junior shortstop Lovie Jung has made her impact felt early on in the Pacific 10 Conference season.
The transfer from Fresno State has hit three home runs in five conference games - all of which were game-winners.
She is leading the team with a .431 average and has hit 12 home runs out of the leadoff spot in the batting order.
Those numbers are even more impressive considering that she hit .359 in her two years at Fresno State and had a total of seven home runs.
Jung currently has a 10-game hitting streak, which ties her with sophomore first baseman/designated player Leneah Manuma for the longest streak this year.
K's, K's, and more K's: Senior Jennie Finch's consecutive streak of wins may be over, but that doesn't mean she's stopped adding to her career resumŽ at UA.
Finch has 210 strikeouts on the year, meaning that she needs only 105 more to pass Becky Lemke's UA record of 314 strikeouts in a season.
Finch is even closer to Lemke's record for most career strikeouts. She currently has 872 career strikeouts and is just 44 behind Lemke's career mark of 916.
J-E-N-N-Y spells relief: Friday, UA head coach Mike Candrea was forced to change pitchers mid-game for the first time this year. Finch, who was feeling ill, was taken out of the ball game after just two innings.
Sophomore Jenny Gladding took over in the circle and dominated the Washington hitters, fanning nine batters in five innings of work en route to her 15th win of the year. That number is a new career high for victories in a season by Gladding.
Big-time honors: Last Friday, the Amateur Softball Association announced its list of 25 finalists for the inaugural USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award.
Jung, Finch, and Manuma were all named as finalists for the award.
Leaders of the Pac: Six of the top 10 home run hitters in the conference are on Arizona's roster, making it the most prolific power-hitting team in the Pac-10.
Manuma leads the league with 17 home runs. Finch (12), Jung (12), Gladding (9), sophomore catcher Mackenzie Vandergeest (9), and freshman third baseman Jackie Coburn (9) round out the list of UA sluggers leading the conference.
The numbers are in: Now that two of UA's most impressive school records are in the books, the magnitude of those streaks can be examined.
Finch's streak of 60 wins lasted for 715 days and the home winning streak of 70 games lasted for 728 days - two days shy of two years. Together, that's 1,443 days without a loss!
Good news? Arizona and UCLA have one more game against each other during the regular season to help settle the debate over which team is better.
If common opponents are any indicator as to which team has the advantage right now, then the Wildcats are sitting in a much better position than the Bruins.
UCLA has lost to five teams other than Arizona this year and the Wildcats have played four of them. Those teams are Cal-State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Arizona Stateand Washington - teams Arizona is a combined 5-1 against.
