Surrender to the music of the night. No, it's not another ill-conceived rave attempt, it's opening night of "Phantom of The Opera" at Centennial Hall at 8 p.m. The show runs tonight through May 4. Tickets run $22.50 to $70. Mind the chandelier.

The University of Arizona Art History Club will present a silent art auction as a fund-raiser Friday at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The auction will take place in the Art building, Room 245. The action is slated to feature numerous pieces of multimedia artwork from local artists. All proceeds will benefit the Art History Club. The event is free and open to the public.
Do you miss the Muppets? Flam Chen, the award-winning pyrotechnic theater troupe, performs with Wisefool New Mexico at The Mat Bevel Institute, 530 N. Stone Ave., Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m. The Wisefool will be performing "Ha Ha Monkey Flower" while Chen's performers "spin, eat and wear flames." The performance is described as "a visual journey through a small island's surreal society expressed with puppets, aerial arts, stilts, dance, fire and outrageous props." Kermit better watch his back. Admission is $10, with student and artist discounts applicable.
Daniel Ash, from Love and Rockets and Bauhaus, will play The Backstage, 6350 E. Tanque Verde Rd., Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and can be picked up at Zia Records, Zips, on University Boulevard, and The Backstage.

Hate al-Qaida? Hate the Taliban? Hate the way both groups treat women? Browse the opening reception of "Out of Sight, Out of Mind: The Struggle of Afghanistan Women" on Saturday, presented by "A Social Conscience." All proceeds from the sale of art at the show will benefit the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA). Beth Kangus, from the UA's Middle Eastern Studies department will speak from at 6:30 p.m. at the reception that runs until 8 p.m. The exhibition will run through May 17. Couldn't get enough of "The Art of Capoeira" in the Wildcat a few weeks back? Well, fear not because the UA's own Capoeira Club is doing a fund-raiser Sunday for Amigos de las Americas at El Parador Mexican Restaurant, 2744 E. Broadway Blvd. Amigos de las Americas is a non-profit group that organizes youth cultural exchanges and promotes community health in Latin America. Call 881-2808 for more information.
