Pastner named assistant coach

After six years with the Arizona basketball program, Josh Pastner is officially a coach.

The former player was promoted to assistant coach yesterday after former assistant Jay John's hiring as head coach of Oregon State Tuesday.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for me," Pastner said. "I am very fortunate to have worked for (head) coach Olson, (assistant) coach Rosborough and (assistant) coach Tention, and am looking forward to the future of Arizona basketball." [Read article]

Congratulations:

Denise "Dove" and Rob Ianello, both UA assistant coaches, had a baby boy Tuesday named Zachary Robert Ianello. The boy is the couple's first child.

The spring football game in Arizona Stadium Saturday was costly for the Wildcats as they lost sophomore reserve defensive lineman Andy Nuessle for at least six months. The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder from Fountain Hills, Ariz., tore ligaments in his knee, leaving his 2002 season in jeopardy. Junior defensive back Johnny Bailey suffered a similar injury during spring drills, leaving his season in question as well.
