Often unnoticed in the realm of academia, staff members at major universities are as crucial to a school's success as faculty and students. With this in mind, the UA Staff Advisory Council presents some artwork from some of UA's more creative staff minds. "On Our Own Time," a staff art exhibit, begins today and runs through April 25. Stop by Old Main's lower level in the lobby to check out the fruits of hard work, intuition and creativity. For more information, contact Jose Solorzano at 621-9947, e-mail him at slmiller@u.arizona.edu or visit the Web site at: http://w3fp.arizona.edu/sac/emp_recognition/onourowntime/2001/gallery/.
Diversity roams free on the UA campus, and we are proud of it. Check out diversity in action today at the UA Mall. University Activities Board Eye on Diversity presents an African Drum and Dance Troupe and its cultural presentation and exhibition. Grab some lunch between noon and 1 p.m. and participate in UA's cultural melting pot. For more information, contact Travis Lane at 621-6760.
The "2002 Building Academic Community: The Speaker Series" continues today with a look at one of America's most unique natural features. Join M. Bonner Denton of the chemistry department from 12:15 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. in the Integrated Learning Center, Room150, as he presents "A Scientific Perspective and Experience on the Bonneville Salt Flats: From Save the Salt Flats to Racing a Sports Car." For more information, contact Jael Walker at 621-7060 or send an e-mail to osegoj@email.arizona.edu.
We all know Wednesdays are popular at UA for the big screen. Even math movies are projected for all to see. Today, check out "N is a Number," a movie depicting peripatetic Hungarian mathematician Paul Erdos, who lived out of two suitcases as he wandered from school to school posing and solving problems, inventing new mathematics and inspiring scores of people. The film is free and plays in the Economics building, Room 110, from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. For more information, contact John L. Leonard at 621-6875 or e-mail him at jleonard@math.arizona.edu.
Depression will affect everyone at some point in life. It's not about avoiding depression, however, as much as it is about adapting and coping. Join grief counselor Patti Harada as she explores "Depression Made Safe." She will speak in the University Medical Center DuVal Auditorium from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for the general public and $5 for UA staff, students and faculty. For more information, call Harada at 886-6046, e-mail her at patti@lovematters.net or visit the Web site at http://www.lovematters.net.
