Three acts, three kitchens, three Christmas parties taking place during three different years and thrown by three different couples. Itâs a play, and itâs popular in more than three countries. ãAbsurd Person Singular,ä by Alan Ayckbourn and directed by Brent Gibbs, previews today. The Arizona Repertory Theatre, the professional training company of the School of Theatre Arts and UA present the event. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in Marroney Theatre in the Fine Arts Complex. Fatherâs Day nears, and Patti Harada urges everyone to examine relationships with fathers. Harada, a certified grief counselor and death educator with the Association for Death Educators and Counselors, presents this lecture as part of the Love, Grace and Healing series. Admission is $10 at the door and $5 for UA staff, students and faculty, and the presentation runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The lecture will be held in the University Medical Center DuVal Auditorium. Thursday has morphed into an informal weekend lead-in day as bands and entertainment circles begin the festivities this night. Sam Bush brings special guest Linda Ronstadt to the stage with his band to perform for everyoneâs entertainment. Tickets cost $32 or $30 for seniors. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 W. Speedway Blvd. For more information, call 327-4809.


Moving and grooving are staples of American fun. The Tucson Dance Company wants everyone to get involved, and it is holding auditions for young dancers Friday. Eight- to 11-year-olds will audition from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., while those 12-21 will audition from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The company asks participants to come dressed and ready to cut a rug, and experience in all dance forms is helpful but not necessary. Broadwayâs best male ensembles get a toast and celebration when the Reveille Gay Menâs Chorus performs ãA Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Chorus.ä The performance is classical chorus, and is a tribute to the best of the best. Tickets cost $15 in advance or $18 at the door, and the show plays at 8 p.m. at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott Ave. For more information, call 617-3100.


Live comedy gives people a great reason to forget about the weekâs chores and struggles and let a little laughter burst forth. The Celebrity Theatre, 440 N. 32nd St., in Phoenix, will host one of televisions most beloved comedians of the past few years. Kevin James of CBSâ ãKing of Queensä performs at 8 p.m. Saturday night. Itâs Fatherâs Day this day, and the main event is your support of your patriarchal figure. Dad loves you, and a call, a gift, dinner or even a simple e-mail would be enough to show him you care. My dad rocks, and Iâm sure yours does too. Give him a toast and show off your respect today.
