TUCSON ÷ Tucson has canceled its Fourth of July fireworks displays because of the extreme fire danger.
The city had been planning on the display as late as last week, but City Manager James Keene told the City Council Monday night the show is canceled.
ãThe fire chief (Dan Newburn) decided that, looking at conditions and resources - we also had warnings there might be terrorist activity - weâre just trying to keep our resources in better places,ä said Tucson fire Battalion Chief Randy Ogden.
The terrorist warning does not specify Tucson as a target, Ogden said. The warning is general and nonspecific about the possibility of an attack somewhere during the Fourth of July, he said.
The cancellation affects displays that were scheduled at ãAä Mountain, Tucson Electric Park and the Tucson Racquet and Fitness Club.
Other displays at the Westward Look Resort, Pima Air & Space Museum, Skyline County Club and The Lodge at Ventana Canyon-Loews Ventana Canyon Resort were canceled earlier.
