Shields wins shot put competition

Arizona sophomore-to-be Sean Shields won the shot put competition at the Texaco Top Athletes Pre-Meet in Nassau, Bahamas, which featured the top juniors from the United States, Cuba, Australia and the Bahamas.

Shields, who won the shot put at the U.S. Junior Championships in June, had a winning toss of 67-feet, 9-inches (20.65m) on Friday at this meet.

He also finished second in Saturdayâs discus competition behind U.S. teammate Michael Robertson.

Shields and the rest of the U.S. Juniors team will compete at the IAAF Junior World Championships, July 16- July 21, in Kingston, Jamaica.

Wright making the right moves

Former UA basketball player Michael Wright is making some noise again back in the United States.

Playing in the States for the first time since playing in Poland, Wright is playing for the San Antonio Spurs in Shawâs Pro Summer League in Boston.

The 39tth pick by the New York Knicks in 2001 is getting the minutes for the Spurs and is making the most of his opportunity.

Wright and the Spurs played the Orlando Magic yesterday on ESPN.
