At a time when tensions are high, learn the facts on community violence and racial profiling as the Tucson Police Department brings controversial issues to the UA Mall stage area. Police Chief Richard Miranda will address the UA community today at 12:30 on topics relevant to our diverse campus. This free event is sponsored by the Chicano Hispana Student Affairs and is open to the public. For more information, call Sophia Ramos at 626-3394.

Open your heart and lend your hands to the Tucson community in an annual United Way effort to aid those less fortunate than yourself. Today marks the 2001 Day of Caring, which provides students and community members the opportunity to help others and learn about the resources that many Tucson organizations provide. Projects will be conducted at various sights around campus and the local community and may be done by UA clubs, organizations and individuals. To get involved, contact Betty Nightengale at 621-5130.

Take a giant leap into the past and enjoy the sights and sounds of history at today's Medieval Reenactment on the UA Mall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A variety of Medieval displays including costumes, food and combat demonstrations will tease your modern senses. Short of time travel, today's experience is the next best thing to girls in corsets and knight with swords. For more information on this historic reenactment, contact David at 621-1167.

In the eye of a disasterm it is often necessary for those given another chance at life to look around and offer that opportunity for those in need. The Red Cross has taken the first step by bringing the Bluebird Bloodmobile to the UA Mall today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist in recruiting blood donors. Take the second step by signing up and extending your arm to the technicians in support of the crisis situation that rocked the world yesterday. If you can't make it, call Kelly Moyer at 917-2830 for more information on other donating opportunities.

On the 24th anniversary of his assassination, the Africana Studies program is hosting a film presentation of Steve Biko, titled "Biko: Breaking the Silence" at 4 p.m. in Modern Languages, Room 413. The evening will explore the efforts of this black activist and his role in moving the South African liberation struggle to new heights in the '60s and '70s. This event is free to UA students and faculty and will include speakers, multimedia presentations and the film. For more information, call Ruby at 621-5665.
