Today
Tired of overcrowded bars and high priced theatres? Spend your Friday night watching a band of UK teens "choose life" in tonight's screening of "Trainspotting." Originally released in 1996, the movie garnered a cult following with its radical presentation of ideas on drugs, sex and popular culture. Tickets for the 7 p.m. Park Student Union showing are only $2 and include free popcorn. For more information on other campus screenings, call Diana Ziegler at 621-0768.
Enter the world of "The Known" at tonight's Center for Creative Photography opening exhibit reception at 5 p.m. "The Gary Winogrand Game of Photography" runs through November and delves into the chaotic world of Winogrand's home town, New York City. With over 300 prints, the display surveys his exhibited and published works. For more information on the opening reception, taking place in the CCP main viewing gallery, call 621-7968.
This Weekend
Raise money for the UA Disability Resource Center while getting your jog on at tomorrow's "Jim Click Pony Express." Events include a 5K run, 2-mile fun run and a 5K wheelchair race around the UA campus. There is a $16 registration fee for the day and proceeds will go to helping the DRC provide UA students and community members with adaptive equipment, scholarships and sports programs. For more information on this annual fundraising opportunity, call Janet Olson at 626-4636.
With more and more information on display on the Internet, many are afraid the great American classic "novel" will soon become obsolete. Pay homage to the written originals at tomorrow's Storytelling Festival between noon and 5 p.m. on the UA lawn near the Arizona State Museum. Bring out the kids, or simply the kid in yourself, and support Arizona's readers at tomorrow's interactive afternoon. For more information on the festival, call Dawn Cromwell at 621-4523.
Bill Cosby is back in a big way. Watch as he storms the Centennial Hall Stage with his humor and sarcasm at tomorrow night's "Special Performance with Bill Cosby." Listen as the television hero recounts stories of family life, both public and private, at 9 p.m. Tickets for this final performance range from $42.75 to $47.75. To purchase tickets and reserve seats, call the Centennial Hall box office at 621-3341.
