Soccer suffers weekend shutouts

Offense continued to be a problem for the Wildcats as they suffered their third and fourth shutouts of the season this weekend. Arizona dropped to 0-2-0 in the Pacific 10 Conference play, losing to Southern California and UCLA.

UA was defeated 2-0 by Southern California on Sunday afternoon. The Trojans set the pace of the game by scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of play. The Wildcats were unable to respond, and were sent home to Tucson with a loss.

UA senior goalkeeper Shannon Monti played all 90 minutes against the Trojans and accumulated eight saves.

The Wildcats opened their Pac-10 season Friday night with a 2-0 loss to No. 2 UCLA.

Arizona held the Bruins scoreless at halftime, only allowing UCLA three first-half shots.

UCLA's Mary-Frances Monroe and Stephanie Rigamat broke the tie, giving the Bruins their eighth series win over the Wildcats.

Monti once again played the entire game and collected two saves.

The weekend wrapped up a six-game road trip for the Wildcats.

Arizona (3-7-1) has lost six consecutive games.

UA continues its schedule with the Pac-10 with a pair of matches against Oregon and Oregon State at Arizona's Murphey Stadium this weekend.


Football game time change

The time for the UA's football game against Southern California on Oct. 27, which is Family Weekend, has been changed from 7 p.m. start to 3:30 p.m.

The game time was changed because the game has been picked up by for Fox Sports Net syndication.


Men's tennis falls in semifinal

The UA men's tennis team finished competition at the University of San Diego All-Collegiate Tournament in San Diego, Calif., last Sunday.

Sophomore Whi Kim fell to Ricardo Rizo of San Diego in the flight 1 semifinal, losing 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

Freshman Colin O'Grady, playing in the flight 2 semi-final against Oregon's Chris King, lost, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

The tournament featured three Pacific 10 Conference teams - Oregon, California and UA as well as San Diego, San Diego State and UC San Diego. UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Loyola Marymount also competed.

The Arizona men's tennis team heads north to Tempe on Friday, for the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate Invitational.


Red-blue tickets go on sale

For those Wildcat fans hoping to get a first look at this season's men's basketball team, tickets for the University of Arizona men's basketball team's annual Pepsi Red-Blue Game will go on sale this morning at 10.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. in McKale Center.

All seating is general admission, and the tickets will be $3 for the general public ages 3 and up. UA students are admitted free with a valid CatCard. The McKale Center Ticket Office is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. MST. For more information, call (520) 621-CATS.
