Activities of two UA fraternities suspended

Fighting and hazing being investigated by Dean of Students Office

The Dean of Students Office has suspended the activities of two UA fraternities after reports of alleged hazing and fighting.

The suspensions of the Pi Kappa Alpha and Delta Chi fraternities include deferral of this weekend's homecoming activities.

All Pi Kappa Alpha-sponsored activities were suspended last week after a number of fights were reported that involved members of the fraternity, said Veda Kowalski, associate dean of students.

Wildcats' season begins tonight at Ground Zero

UA begins season in Coaches vs. Cancer against Maryland

Arizona and Maryland had plenty in common last season.

Both were powered by touted guards who were complemented by a strong inside presence.

But the two teams have gone in different directions since their respective season-ending losses to Duke in the Final Four last year.

When the two teams meet tonight at 7 in New York City for the opening round of the Coaches vs. Cancer IKON Classic, the differences will be obvious.

Arizona has never lost to Maryland. The last time the teams met, the Wildcats defeated the Terps 97-90 in the NCAA Sweet 16 in Anaheim in 1998.

Peterson should stop moaning

Charles Peterson must have known that his letter to the (yesterday's) editor condemning the gay community would garner some response from that community. I certainly do not pretend to speak for the entire GLBT community at UA, but I do have a couple of points to make that I think neatly rebut Peterson's narrow presentation of the issue.
