Cheer on your University of Arizona Wildcats football team and show some school spirit at today's Bear Down Bash at Bear Down Gym. The food and fun will begin as the sun goes down the day before the Wildcats put Stanford in its place on the field. When you have had your fill of indoor entertainment, grab your banners and head on down to Old Main for the annual UA Homecoming Bonfire and Pep Rally. For more information and event times, call Jennifer Cartwright at 621-7576 or 1-800-BEAT-ASU.
Is it a bird, a plane or the rings of Saturn? Join the Flandrau Science Center and the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association for a free viewing Saturn's rings and other objects in the night sky through UA's large telescopes. Viewings will be held between 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. For more information on other public telescope viewings, call Michael Magee at 621-3645.
Spend a relaxing evening indoor at tonight's International Arts Society film series presentation of "Down by the Law" at 7:30. The 1986 film chronicles two jaded hipsters who cross paths in a New Orleans jail. Roberto Benigni provides comic relief as his character amuses and annoys the jailed pair. Tonight's screening in the Modern Languages auditorium is free for students. For more information on other screenings, call Charles Scruggs at 621-3527.
THIS WEEKEND
Celebrate Wildcat pride as a variety of student-made floats cascade through campus at tomorrow's Homecoming Parade at 1:30 p.m. This year's parade will feature Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as Grand Marshall and will include Janet Napolitano, Arizona's attorney general, and U.S. Rep. Jim Kolbe as participants. Catch a glimpse of your friends as they line up the floats at the intersections of North Campbell Avenue and East Second Street. Don't forget to make it over to Arizona Stadium in time to see the Wildcats tear down Stanford. For more information on Homecoming events, call Cory Older at 271-7318 or 1-800-BEAT-ASU.
Cram some educational time in during the long weekend by checking out one of the many weekend lectures offered on the UA campus. On Sunday, you can learn about "The Seri of Sonora: Discovering the Past in the Present" at the Center for English as a Second Language, Room 102. For more information on this or other weekend lectures, call 621-4403.
