Police questioned a student Friday after another student reported her $300 gold and diamond ring had been stolen from a residence hall restroom, reports stated.

At about 12:15 a.m., a student reported the theft of her ring. She told police she was in a women's restroom at Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., when she hung her ring on a hook next to her toiletries. She was pacing through the restroom brushing her teeth and noticed there was only one other person in the restroom.

The other woman said, "I don't want to use that sink," washed her hands and then left the restroom, reports stated.

The student finished brushing her teeth when she noticed her ring was missing.

She checked the drains, floor and trash can, but did not find the ring, then asked people on her wing if any one had seen the woman.

She found two people who said they had seen the suspect with two other girls, and said that they had asked for directions to the other side of the dorm.

Later, a resident assistant told police that one of the woman said they were from Alpha Delta Pi sorority house.

Police went to the Alpha Delta Pi sorority house, 1443 E. First St., and located the suspect, who matched the description given by the victim.

She admitted being in the dorm and talking to people, but denied entering any restroom, or having any knowledge about the ring.

Officers advised that the case be forwarded to detectives to interview the involved parties again, reports stated.

Police questioned two men for having a gun and possibly drugs Friday after gunshots were fired near campus, reports stated.

At about 1:30 a.m., an officer was inside Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., when he heard gunshots coming from the area near East Sixth Street and North Tyndall Avenue.

The officer went to his patrol car, when he heard more gunshots and saw a sport utility vehicle and a truck speed onto East Sixth Street from North Tyndall Avenue.

The cars split up, and police followed the truck as it drove erratically down the street, eventually initiating a high-risk traffic stop in a parking lot at 1700 E. Broadway Blvd.

Police pulled out their guns and ordered the driver to shut off the truck and place the keys on the hood. Officers then ordered the driver to exit the truck, eventually placing him into custody. Police did not find any guns or contraband on the driver.

Officers asked the driver if there were any guns in the truck, and he said there was a loaded gun under the passenger seat, reports stated.

Tucson police arrived on the scene and ordered the passenger out of the truck. They placed him into custody.

An officer with a canine arrived, searched the truck and found no other people in the truck.

Police looked under the passenger's seat and found a gun inside a black holster. Officers then found three spent casings in the bed of the truck.

No bullets were found in the chamber of the gun, but six rounds were found in the magazine. A check of the gun reported it had not been stolen, reports stated.

The driver told police that he was at a party with the other man when they heard the gunshots in the area, and fled as fast as they could. He said he did not see the shooting or where it had come from.

The driver did not comment on the spent casings in the bed of the truck. Officers asked him why there were only six bullets in a 10-round magazine. The driver said he had used the gun for practice shooting a week earlier, and denied his gun had just been fired.

Police returned to the truck to see if there were any more casings when an officer found a tin container, in plain view, containing a baggie of a white powdery substance and a small, triangular pill.

The men said they did not know where the container came from, or whom it belonged to. The driver said he let many people use his truck, and had never seen the container before, reports stated.

The Tucson Police Department took possession of the gun, rounds, magazine, holster, spent casings and suspected drugs to process the items as evidence.

The two men were released by TPD at around 2:45 a.m., reports stated.
