Baseball player was once hit by a 110 mph ball and thinks Arizona is Îa little rocky'
WILDCAT: So how long have you played professional baseball?
HELMS: I played in the major leagues three years and in the minor leagues three years.
WILDCAT: So what position do you play?
HELMS: Third base.
WILDCAT: Oh, third base. The hot corner. Have you ever been hit by a ball coming at you real hard?
HELMS: Yeah, I got hit in the mouth by a 110 mile per hour ball and I had to have surgery three times to repair it.
WILDCAT: Was that when you were in the majors or the minors?
HELMS: My last year in the minor leagues.
WILDCAT: Do you have a grudge against the guy who hit that?
HELMS: Nah. It's Roger Cede–o. He plays in New York now.
WILDCAT: Wow, Roger Cede–o. Did you get him to autograph the ball with the little bloodstain on it?
HELMS: We joke about it every once in a while.
WILDCAT: What sort of jokes could you possibly tell about that?
HELMS: I tell him I'll get him back. Like if I have to tag him at third base one time I'll tag him really hard.
WILDCAT: That's so lame. You should hit him really hard.
HELMS: I gotta make it so I don't get thrown out of the game.
WILDCAT: I would think that hitting someone could look like an accident. So what brings you to campus?
HELMS: Just looking around.
WILDCAT: You like it?
HELMS: It's a little rocky.
WILDCAT: You're not from Arizona are you?
HELMS: I'm from North Carolina. But I think it's nice. I keep up with Arizona sports all the time. Actually I watched the basketball game last night. I watch Arizona State.
WILDCAT: You watch Arizona State? And you're here on campus?
HELMS: Oh, it doesn't matter to me.
