The Real Life Training Diary of An NFL Prospect

"Good morning, Mr. Johnson, this is your 6:45 wake-up call."

Every morning in Harahan, La., begins in this way, as if somehow I have been zapped inside the movie "Groundhog Day" and must yet again tackle a day full of workouts in an attempt to get things perfectly right.

After taking a quick shower and mixing together a protein shake, I am off to the Elmwood Fitness Center, where I will spend the next nine hours of the day getting bigger, stronger and faster so that I will impress NFL scouts at my personal workout March 13 back in Tucson. [Read article]

Sophomore becomes second UA hoops player to depart top-ranked squad since start of Pac-10 play

Sophomore reserve forward Dennis Latimore left the UA basketball team yesterday before practice with his future plans undecided, said head coach Lute Olson.

Latimore, a 6-foot-8 native of Halstead, Kan., averaged 3.2 points and 3.1 rebounds in 23 games this season.

The move comes as a surprise with just four regular season games remaining, but Olson said Latimore made the decision himself. [Read article]

Commentary: A slice of Bacon for Latimore

Nothing in the world would ever make me think the Will Bynum decision was an intelligent one, but I guess I looked past our 6-foot-8, 230 pound paper-weight at the end of the bench.

Besides the fact that you, Mr. Latimore, are leaving the best team in the world for a nice summer job at McDonald's, you are also going to be ineligible to play next year, which will make you not only the towel boy for another college but also the biggest hamburger flipper ever to grace the golden arches. photo Frye emerging as full-court presence

Sophomore center Channing Frye was recruited out of high school based on the potential that UA head coach Lute Olson saw in the Phoenix native.

Olson projected that Frye would begin to shine during his junior season, but he was wrong.

Frye, the current Pacific 10 Conference Player of the Week, has emerged as a threat on the offensive and defensive ends in recent weeks.

Olson said he saw the improvement in practice and is not surprised by Frye's back-to-back games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. [Read article]

Soggy scores drop golf to ninth place

The Arizona women's golf team dug a huge hole yesterday as it dropped from third place to ninth at the Arizona National Golf Club.

With windy, cold conditions, the Wildcats had a tough day and had only two players break 80, effectively dropping them out on contentions of their own tournament.

The number one team in the nation started yesterday with high hopes, but nothing went the UA players' way, and disappointment was the only thing that the players and head coach Greg Allen felt after the scorecards. [Read article]

Tennis takes on ASU

When Arizona and Arizona State face off, records and rankings are thrown out the window; each team vies for bragging rights.

That attitude will be in full force this afternoon as the 24th ranked UA women's tennis team plays host to No. 8 ASU.

The Wildcats (2-3 overall, 0-1 Pacific 10 Conference) have lost three consecutive matches, but today's matchup might just be what the team needs to get back on track. [Read article]

Women's lacrosse falls to No. 6 UCSB, No. 1 Cal Poly

Despite dropping one game to No. 6 UC Santa Barbara and two to No. 1 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo over the weekend, the coachless women's lacrosse team is still in position to make the league tournament and make a run at the national title.

The No. 15 Wildcats (3-4) fell to the Gauchos Saturday morning, 11-8 and then later that day to Cal Poly, 9-6. On Sunday Arizona played the top-ranked Mustangs again, falling 12-5. [Read article]
