UA student Ītouched' by idea for official university thongs

I was very touched Monday when I read the article on page 11 about the sensible people up in Princeton. Never before had such an idea gained my compassion as much as selling officially licensed thongs. Just the thought of it makes me weak in the knees. They would go perfectly with a nice pair of jeans, or perhaps even the famous UA shorts. Whoever is missing the boat these days by not wearing thongs will surely benefit a great deal from this bookstore buy. And think about the economic benefits as well. Most women here at the UA take advantage of these lovely undergarments everyday, so why not bring Wilbur to the masses and turn a quick buck? Just another great example of the great minds up at Princeton who give our society so great a gift as officially licensed collegiate thongs. [Read article]

A lesson learned about Chicanos

I once heard somebody say, "What's a Chicano? Doesn't the word have the same meaning as Mexican-American?" I thought about it for a moment before realizing that I didn't know the difference either. Not wanting to be ignorant on the topic, I set out to find the answer. Here's what I found:

He spent time in Oxnard, Calif., Chicago, Phoenix, and he has spent the past eight months here in Tucson. Though he can speak English, he still has a bit of trouble with the language and prefers to speak Spanish. [Read article]

photo Republican legislators lacking reason

While Governor Janet Napolitano was working hard to improve conditions for children, health care for seniors, and save our state's forests from destructive fires, Republican legislators were busy trying to do everything in their power to invent issues to focus on and use them to avoid dealing with our state's real problems. Not to mention the upcoming budget.

Their latest antics include passing a bill making it easier to fire state employees who use work computers to view pornography (who knew there was a statewide epidemic of state employees watching porn on their computers ÷ which is already illegal, mind you), and approving a measure making state employees sign contracts swearing they will not use weapons of mass destruction (as if the death penalty would not be harsh enough for anyone convicted of using a weapon of mass destruction to kill hundreds of people).
