photo Utes will keep UA offense busy

Don't laugh: The best defense the Wildcats will face this season might be Utah's.

The reason the Utes (2-0) could present such a problem for the Wildcats on Saturday night in Arizona Stadium is Utah's liberal use of the zone blitz, one of the hardest kinds of attacks to guard.

The defense usually employs blitzing linebackers and safeties, with defensive linemen dropping back into zone coverage. It forces offensive linemen to determine on the fly which players are rushing and try and block them. The zone blitz also allows the defense to overload one side of the line, causing mismatches between blockers and rushers. [Read article]

photo Wildcats Îexpect better results'

When the 2002 volleyball season began, Arizona had high hopes of making a run at this year's NCAA championship.

However, the first two weeks have been anything but great for the UA women's volleyball team.

The Wildcats (3-3) have not only failed to defeat a ranked opponent but also lost one of their floor leaders when senior Stefani Saragosa quit the team due to injury earlier this week.

However, the team is not giving in and will try to get back in gear this weekend as they travel to Stockton, Calif., to take part in the Pacific Invitational. [Read article]

The road has been good to the women's soccer team so far, but this is where the going gets tough.

This Sunday, the Wildcats journey to Norman, Okla., to face an opponent which is also off to its best start in school history ÷ Oklahoma.

The Sooners are 4-0-0 on the season, after defeating Drury and Arkansas with back-to-back 3-0 scores.

"We're excited," UA head coach Cathy Klein said. "This is the best team we've played all year." [Read article]

New coach Li looking for a fast start on Saturday

People often say that throughout a season, a team will take on the characteristics of its coach.

The Arizona cross country program has a bit of a head start in that department.

Without even competing in a meet, many of the members of the Wildcat cross country team already have something in common with their coach.

On Saturday, head distance coach James Li will make his UA cross country debut along with 10 out of the 17 team members competing. [Read article]
