Letter falsely called good friend a racist

I was amazed at the comments made by a UA alumnus, Kris Henley. I have known Chris Rodgers for nine months now since we met at the Student Recreation Center this past summer. Over this time period we became friends, and he has never shown me the side that Mr. Henley claims to have witnessed.

I was there, and not at any point did Chris say the racist comments that he claims that he said. Chris has never shown nor said anything to anybody that might be considered racist, disrespectful, or derogatory. Actually, he has always made an effort to talk to UA fans and promote the UA basketball program. I cannot count the numerous times that we would be together and he would willingly sign or talk to people who recognized him. Case in point: he was the only basketball player that stayed after the Wild Chair Charity game and signed autographs for kids in front of McKale Center. [Read article]

photo Commentary: Zona Zoo: an animal of an idea

Student government and the athletics department announced a new plan on Tuesday for selling men's basketball tickets. The plan is embedded in something called Zona Zoo, but ultimately tickets will be sold through a lottery system rather than first come, first serve.

And for the most part, the plan works.

Drafters have taken former student senator Peter Wand's Zona Zoo T-shirt and expanded on it. See, Zona Zoo is no longer just a cotton shirt, it's now a state of mind. [Read article]

It's odd how in our country the politics are center-right while most Americans lean center-left when addressing issues most important in their lives.

Most Americans swing in the opposite direction of their elected officials in areas such as education, health care, environment, retirement security, childcare and living wages.

As evident in our last presidential election, populist themes were core sentiments with Al Gore championing progressive ideals and George W. Bush campaigning on a "compassionate conservatism" strategy. [Read article]
